The sabar drum is one of three main drum
types used widely in Senegal. Less known outside the
region than the wider shorter hand drum, the sabar is
worn around the waist of the drummer and played with
one hand and a stick. It is long and narrow and therefore
produces more of a bass sound. Special choreography
is designed exclusively for dancing to the sabar.
